Three and a half years after a shark attack took Sean Pollard’s arm and hand, he’s finally said thank you to the Royal Flying Doctor nurse who saved his life.
Michael Thomson joined Channel Nine Perth in 1987, after working for seven years in print with the Daily News. He started work at Nine Perth as a crime reporter and later took on the role of sports reporter and presenter.
During his time at Channel Nine, Michael has covered the Olympic Games in Atlanta and Sydney, and the 1994 Commonwealth Games in Canada. The Nine Network had the broadcast rights to the Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur in 1998, where Michael commentated on hockey and the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, where he commentated on gymnastics. He has also covered AFL Grand Finals, the Australian Grand Prix, Sheffield Shield and One Day cricket.
In his career spanning over more than 30 years, Michael has won many awards for football and cricket reporting. He has also received the WA Clear Speech Award on several occasions. In 2000, Michael was awarded the Australian Sports Media Award for his services to sport.
Michael began presenting the 9News Perth 6pm bulletin in January 2018 and continues to do so every weeknight covering the latest in news, sport, and weather, broadcasting live from the top of the terrace.
