Woman sues ex who dumped her after their $650,000 casino win

A Manhattan woman is suing her ex after he took their $AU650,000 casino winnings and “upgraded” to a new girlfriend, The New York Post reports.

According to the website, Jasmine Zheng, 21, and Zhiwei Zheng, 26, won big during a gambling trip to Atlantic City in January, having agreed to split any winnings they made.

Zhiwei had held onto their new fortune and carried it in his bag as they returned to New York, which Jasmine says she didn’t mind because she “trusted” him. 

However, the couple - who have the same surname but are not related - broke up soon afterwards, and Jasmine’s portion of the baccarat winnings has not been returned.

She is now suing for $US500,000 ($AU650,000) in damages.

Jasmine tells The New York Post the win “changed” her boyfriend, and he began flirting with other women.

“I couldn’t handle that, and he said, ‘If you cannot handle that, then we just broke up,’ and he found another girlfriend right away,” she says.

The 21-year-old says Zhiwei had been gambling for a long time and often placed large bets, but rarely won anything. 

The couple began raking in winnings, which they would post photos of and brag about on social media.

Jasmine tells The New York Post the winnings, and the taxes owed, were recorded in her name as the couple would always use her casino comp card when they gambled together.

However, she alleges that when she approached Zhiwei’s father to ask for her portion of the prize so she could pay the taxes, he encouraged her to claim it had been lost so she wouldn't have to.
