Woman 'ruins' proposal by assuming boyfriend is joking

Safe to say, one couple's happily ever after didn't have a fairy tale start.

Gracie O'Neill was on a romantic trip to Disneyland with her long-time partner when he got down on one knee and proposed to her.

Only, instead of saying a definitive "yes" or "no" to the question, she proceeded to swat him on the head, thinking the proposal was a joke.

A video of the moment has received more 5.6 million views on TikTok.

In the footage, O'Neill is seen standing beside her boyfriend, posing for a photo in front of the famous Disneyland castle.

Following her photoshoot, her partner gets down on one knee and prepares to pop the question.

Due to previous 'fake-proposal' jokes, O'Neill assumes he is joking and responds by smacking him on top of his head.

"In my defense, I thought he was trolling me," she explained on TikTok.

However, it turned out her partner was serious.

The video shows him smiling and continuing with the proposal, telling O'Neill, "This time, I'm not kidding."

Commenters laughed at her reaction to the proposal, one asking, "How many times has he tried this?!"

"Girl why was that your first reflex?" another wrote.

A third commenter said, "You bopped him like turning off an alarm clock."

O'Neill then shared the full video, which shows her reacting with genuine shock and delight to the proposal and confirming that, of course, she will marry him.

"Seriously, the happiest day of my life," she wrote.

"Excuse my squealing… I was truly in shock."

She later admitted she felt "so bad" about "completely ruining" her fiance's proposal.

"It's so funny for us to look back and laugh at it," she added.

In another post, O'Neill explained they had been with her partner's family earlier that day, and she was "annoyed" by his constant fake proposals in front of their relatives.

The couple even had a fight about the issue, with O'Neill's boyfriend promising her "next time, I won't be joking."

The pair have been together for five years and married for one year to date.

While the magic moment in the Magic Kingdom may have been slightly marred, it did at least have a happy ending.

On Quora, an employee of Disneyland revealed that during her time working at "Fantasyland" and locations around the iconic castle, she would witness between three and 20 proposals a day.
