Woman who pranked husband with 'lottery win' hits $1.8mil jackpot weeks later

A UK woman's lottery win prank completely backfired on her - but in the most amazing way possible.

Three weeks earlier, Charlotte Peart, 28, had decided, for whatever reason, to fool her husband into thinking they'd won $AU450,000. (As you do?)

She used a scratchie as her pranking weapon of choice, and the gag was obviously very convincing because Daniel, 27, fell for it.

However, this trickery came back to bite Charlotte almost a month later when she actually did hit the jackpot.

The Peterborough mother of three and admin worker immediately called her husband at work to share the exciting news, but didn't get the reaction she'd expected.

"He didn't believe me," Charlotte tells The Sun.

"Actually, he said, 'I can't talk to you right now, love' and ended up putting his brother on the phone."

Daniel, a self-employed carpenter, admitted he didn't buy the story because he and Charlotte like to "wind each other up".

Only when his wife of five years sent a screenshot of the winning message did the reality begin to sink in.

"From then on it's been crazy," he adds.

Perhaps the fable of the "boy who cried wolf" should be renamed "the mum who cried jackpot"?

The Pearts, who had been regular lottery players, are planning to use their winnings to buy a bigger house.

"All the kids have earned their own bedrooms, they're all excited about that and we're looking forward to the next adventure in our lives," Daniel says.
