'I'm furious my sister-in-law brought COVID-19 into our house'

Two days after Christmas my sister-in-law, Meg, told me she was dropping over with some leftover food.

I said that was fine and I was looking forward to seeing her. We've been friends since even before I'd met my partner Ben, as she introduced us.

I was very surprised when she came into the house with a friend, Beck, whom I'd met a few times and didn't really like.

I found her quite arrogant and I know Meg had told me previously that Beck is an anti-vaxxer and thinks that the coronavirus pandemic is all a bit of a laugh.

I told Meg I don't know why she'd want to be friends with such a foolish woman. However, they both came in and I politely offered them a cup of tea – which was a big mistake.

They stayed for about 90 minutes and when they left I had a funny feeling in my gut that I'd just done the wrong thing.

So, a few days later Meg called to say she had bad news – Beck had COVID-19 and I should get myself tested seeing as I was a casual contact. I couldn't believe it!

Although now I see that my gut instinct, that something wasn't right, was correct. And now I have COVID-19, as does Meg, and we are isolating together so that our partners and kids don't get it too.

I'm just so angry with Meg for being so thoughtless. And I'm also angry with myself for not being more open and saying that I was worried about coronavirus and not to invite them in. I don't know why I did that as I also have myself to blame for being so stupid.

And to make things even worse, my teenage daughter now has COVID-19, as does her boyfriend. I realise many people believe we will all get the virus eventually but I'd rather delay it for as long as possible.

I had a go at Meg for bringing Beck into her home and she ripped into me. She said that I was being paranoid and that catching COVID-19 isn't a death sentence. It's ridiculous of her to say that, as a cousin of hers has died from the virus in England.

She's always been very arrogant but now she is really showing her true colours. As for Beck, who was knowingly COVID-19 positive at the time (although she had only told Meg she suspected she had the virus) I phoned her to say I was very upset that she didn't warn us.

I just don't understand how some people can be so slack during a pandemic. If I had the slightest fear that maybe I had the virus, there is no way I'd be visiting anyone – or if I had something to drop off, I'd leave it at the front door.

Why are people taking unnecessary risks? I just think people are so blasé and will remain so, until they get sick themselves. It's definitely a crazy time to be alive.
