Woman followed by car during run shares chilling footage on Facebook

A US woman who found herself being followed by a stranger in a car while out for a run has shared chilling footage of the incident on Facebook.
 
The video, filmed selfie-style on a phone, begins with McKenzie Smalley being trailed by a black ute as she walks along a road in Scottsdale, Arizona last Tuesday afternoon. 
 
The male driver can be seen calling and barking at her through the open window, saying, “Girl, you have me barking in the street.”
 
“I need you to stop following me right now, I don’t know you,” Smalley responds, laughing nervously. 

In the next cut of the video, the personal trainer appears fearful, telling the camera, “Oh my gosh, he won’t leave, I’m about to call the police”.
 
Eventually, Smalley was able to lose the man by running “full sprint” away from him.
 
In her Facebook post, she explains the driver had initially pulled up beside her and asked her to come over to his car.

When she refused, he proceeded to follow her and ignored her multiple requests for him to stop.

“At first I sort of laugh in this video because I wasn’t totally sure what was going on,” she writes. 
 
“[When] he started making comments about my appearance and physique is when I was getting mad and to be honest, scared.”

Smalley says the man threatened to “chase” her, and when it appeared he was beginning to park the car in order to get out, she sprinted in the opposite direction. 
 
“I wasn’t smiling at him or giving him false hope that there was a chance I was interested. I was ignoring him, minding my own business,” she adds.

“I have no doubt he would have followed me my entire run if he could.”

Making the situation worse was the fact multiple passers-by didn’t attempt to help Smalley or even react to her visible discomfort.

“What you don’t see on the video is me ... looking at other cars saying ‘I don’t know this man’ and nobody helping,” she writes.
 
“Even a car full of women just drove around and laughed.”

Smalley, who shared the video in an attempt to raise awareness of the reality of street harassment, concludes her post by urging men and women alike to step up and help those who are clearly being targeted.
 
“If you see someone harassing a girl, or a girl going ‘Help me’, do something,” she says.
 
“Guys, even if you are not actually physically touching a girl, harassing her by following her on the street is just as bad. I felt super scared for a moment.”
