Woman's brave move to escape abusive boyfriend

A woman has handed a note to staff at a vet, claiming her boyfriend was holding her at gunpoint and threatening her life.

Volusia County Sherriff's Office in Florida said the 28-year-old woman alleged she was being held captive by her abusive boyfriend.

The note read, "Call the cops, my boyfriend is threatening me. He has a gun. Please don't let him know."

Police stated the victim had been held captive for two days.

After handing the note to the staff member at DeLand Animal Hospital they called the police and the man was arrested.

Sheriff's spokeswoman Laura Williams identified the man as Jeremy Floyd, 39.

The woman told police Floyd had 'repeatedly battered her on Wednesday night, threatened her at gunpoint, and physically prevented her from leaving their home,' ABC News reported.

The woman convinced her boyfriend the dog needed to go to the vet and he agreed, however held her at gunpoint the entire time.

The woman said she'd tried to escape him days earlier by jumping out of a bedroom window and running down the street, however he caught her and dragged her back to the house.

On the way to the vet the woman told police Floyd threatened to kill her family.

It was when she went to the bathroom at the vet that she wrote the note, later slipping it to a staff member.

Floyd has been charged with domestic violence, aggravated assault with a firearm, false imprisonment, simple battery and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

He is being held at Volusia County Branch Jail without bail.

The woman was taken to DeLand Florida Hospital where she was treated for a head wound, black eye, bruised arms and legs and scratches on her hands and fingers.
