A woman who woke from a coma to discover she has a different husband is recalling her shock.

Angela Sartin-Hartung, who lives in New York, was hit by a car nearly five years ago, suffering a traumatic brain injury.

She was in a coma for just a month, however when she woke up, had lost her memory for the past 15 years.

"I do not remember anything at all," Sartin-Hartung, 55, tells CBS News. "I asked for my two children, I thought they were like two and eight years old. They were 17 and 23 years old."

She thought husband Jeff was a stranger or perhaps a doctor, but was unable to speak at first so couldn't ask.

"It was very upsetting," she told New York Daily news. "To this day, I get upset and start crying. It felt like I was in a movie. It didn't feel real."

The mother-of-two woke up expecting to still be married to her first husband, who had passed away in 1998 of heart and lung disease.

And she had no memory of meeting, let alone marrying Jeff -- so the couple had to start from scratch.

Jeff decorated their home with photos of the missing years, including wedding photos and lots of images of the children. He also began dating his wife again.

The determined husband's plan worked at treat, with the couple renewing their wedding vows earlier this month.

"I honestly believe that this happened for a reason," he says. "How many times have we said, 'I wish I could go back and do something over again?' I've gotten to do that."
