Woman asks her 92-year-old grandmother to be her bridesmaid

It's not often a bridesmaid is two whole generations older than the bride.

But that is exactly what happened at a Canadian wedding, when a bride-to-be asked her 92-year-old grandmother to be a part of her wedding party.

"It might be a bit untraditional, but Granny is my best friend," Amanda Scott, 24, told People.

"She's the closest person to me and the person I spend the most time with, so my wedding wouldn't have been complete without her as a bridesmaid."

What makes the bridal party choice even more unusual is the fact Scott is not blood-related to Mary Smith, who is the mother of her stepmother.

Smith was taken aback to be asked at the age of 92, but was thrilled to be asked.

"I realised age doesn't matter. I was delighted when Amanda asked me because we are great friends.

Smith also played a role in designing Scott's veil, composed of bridesmaids' dresses she had worn in the past.

For her part, Smith wore a lace blouse, denim jean skirt and white cowboy boots for the wedding ceremony.
