Woman's bittersweet Valentine's Day surprise

Valentine's Day is not always an easy day for some, and for US woman Debra Taylor Tenney this year's was going to be tough.

Debra's husband of 45 years Randy passed away after a short battle with a rare but aggressive brain tumour in December 2019.

Valentine's Day was a special day for the pair, who married in 1974 and have eight children together. Randy would spend the holiday showering his wife with flowers and a poem every year on the day.

However, Randy managed to give his wife a Valentine's Day surprise.

Debra received a beautiful bouquet of flowers accompanied by a poem written by Randy that read:

"Roses are red, Violets are blue, Yelling from Heaven that I will always love you. With love from your eternal Valentine, R.T."

Randy had organised through a florist friend of his to have the flowers delivered to Debra, organising it months ago knowing he may not make it to Valentine's Day. He always began his poem for Debra with 'Roses are read, violets are blue'.

Debra's son Jeff Tenney told Fox 10 Phoenix that his mother knew immediately it was from Randy.

"She knew right away they were his because of the yellow flowers. He had this saying that he loved to scatter sunshine" he said. "It was his life motto."

Debra burst into tears as soon as she saw the flowers.

"When I walked over and opened the card, I couldn't even control myself. It was, it was him," she told KPHO. "I guess you could call this my real life 'P.S. I Love You' miracle."
