That's the question social media users can't get enough of, thanks to the latest AI trend sweeping through TikTok and Instagram.
AI-generated videos showing beds made of wacky, comfy and straight-up fictional materials have dominated the short-form video platforms, asking the audience to decide which bed they would sleep on.

Just some examples include beds made of gold, jelly, clouds, lava, ocean waves, chrome, zen stones, slime, crystal, cake, fruit, yarn, mochi, nebula clouds and anything else you could imagine.

The videos, dubbed "oddly satisfying", are yet another example of an AI trend people can't get enough of.

Videos of the AI beds garner hundreds of thousands of likes, views and comments, with social media users proclaiming they "take these videos very seriously."

It's not clear how the trend started, but they have been around since 2024, with the videos increasing in popularity.
Every time I come across one, I can't help but wonder: Why? Why do people love them so much?

I asked my colleagues to explain the appeal behind the AI bed videos.
"I love love love those vids," one coworker told me.
"They remind me of those BuzzFeed personality quizzes.
"They're fun and silly and a nice break from all the depressing content and world news that comes up on my social media feed!"
Another told me she had shared one to her Instagram Story and was inundated with messages from her friends saying they loved the videos.
"Everyone's watching them," she said.
"It's just a ridiculous way to spend five minutes and I don't know why I can't get enough, but it's almost... soothing?
"It sparks an odd conversation with those nearby you never thought you'd have."
Despite the fanfare online, some people said they don't like the trend.
"I hate these videos with the burning fire of a thousand suns," one person told me.
"They're so stupid and vapid and pointless – and they don't even look good! If you want to watch soothing videos, try going for something that doesn't use AI."
Another said she'll watch them depending on the theme of the video.

"I've seen food ones that are cute, but overall, I find them cringeworthy. I can't get past the casual slide into a jagged-edge gem bed. Ouch."

After watching a dozen of these AI bed videos to write this article, I've concluded it may be odd and inexplicable, but damn it – it is sort of soothing.
