What happened when I had the Foo Fighters over for a barbecue

One of the first dates my husband Mike and I went on 10 years ago was a Foo Fighters concert at Homebush. We were in the nosebleed seats, but to this day it was one of the greatest live acts we’ve witnessed. As we left the arena we chatted about Dave Grohl’s charisma and how he was the type of guy you’d love to have a beer and a chat with at the pub.

Fast-forward a decade and we went one better: we had Grohl and his drummer Taylor Hawkins over to our place for a barbecue.

Grohl and Hawkins were in Australia to promote their ninth studio album Concrete and Gold.

I had met the guys two and a half years ago in Los Angeles. It was a crazy three days, listening to them rehearse and goof around. There is a camaraderie between them that comes from sharing a stage and tour bus for more than 20 years.

As Dave explained to me, "I want to impress the guys in the band. You know, when I’m in front of a vocal mic and Taylor’s in the room listening to me sing, I’m more nervous about what Taylor thinks than whether it’s going to go on the radio or anything like that.”

Taylor interrupted, “The same goes quadruple for me.”
