Twitter rages at 'disgusting' store customer
A video of a customer using Listerine in a shop and putting it back as gone viral.
But is it real? Or an elaborate setup?
The video of a shopper at US chain Walmart shows them opening a bottle of Listerine, gargling, and spitting the liquid back into the bottle.
Posted on Wednesday under user name 'Bameron Nicole Smith' of San Jose, California, the footage shows the shopper saying, "Girl, it has been one musty f--king morning", before using the Listerine in view of a surveillance camera.
They then say, "Mmm, nice and minty and fresh. Thank you guys."
Initially, Twitter users expressed their disgust at the act, likening it to a previously released viral video of a woman licking ice cream in a store before returning it to the freezer.
However some have suggested the Listerine video is a spoof of the ice cream video, the the culprit in that incident since being identified and the case being handled by the Texas Juvenile Justice Department.
Others suggest that the video may not be a spoof, but an attempt by Smith to attract more followers.
A subsequent photo shows Smith holding up receipts from CVS and Walmart suggesting the Listerine was purchased.
A Walmart representative has told the Daily Mail, the incident is being investigated.
"We are investigating this incident," they said. "If someone tampers with a product and leaves it on the shelf, we will work with law enforcement to identify and prosecute those found responsible to the fullest extent of the law."
