US mum arrested after leaving young children home alone

Indiana woman Taylor Cumings recently spent the night in jail after leaving her two young sons home alone.

The mum-of-two is now defending her decision to leave her children home without a babysitter or carer and admitted she had no other choice.

Her 4-year-old son Kamron was home sick, but she had to work and couldn’t get a babysitter, so left 7-year-old son Tyruse in charge.

"I felt that for a day he was fine. Was I worried sick? Absolutely! Who wouldn't be?" she told CNN.

"To say that a 7-year-old is mature to watch a 4-year-old, sounds absolutely outrageous. I totally understand people do not know me or my kids."

But the single mum is still standing by her decision to leave her children home without an adult.

Cumings explained she felt that Tyruse was mature enough to handle it.

"They know one, not to touch the stove. Don't touch the heaters, the base boards. They know not to answer the door for anybody," she explained.

The boys followed their mum's rules and didn't even open the door when Police were called to the home.

An anonymous person alerted authorities to the children at home alone, but instead of letting the officers in, Tyruse called his aunt for help.

"When the police arrived-he knew not to answer that door until my aunt showed up," Cumings explained.

Officers arrested Cumings, who spent a night in jail, and is now facing a preliminary charge of neglect.

Cumings has since said that "it was humiliating" and she's hit back at the jokes being made that she's a bad parent and says none of it is true.

She is looking forward to moving on from the experience and said "it will never happen again."
