TV star responds to death threats over her armpit hair

When one actress dared to show her armpit hair (shock horror!) on the Golden Globes red carpet, she was met with backlash of epic proportions - to the point where she received death threats from the public. Users wrote "This armpit hair is disgusting!! It stinks and sweats!" and "No class. Pig"

Now, Mozart in the Jungle actress Lola Kirke has responded to the hate she received with a simple shout out to the ones who supported her. She wrote on Instagram:

Ok! Now I'm really ready. Thanks to all you beautiful people who didn't send me death threats on account of my #awesome #hairyarmpits! You rule. And thank you @susanwinget for always making me feel cool and @reginaharris for my make up, @blakeerik for my hair and @andrewgn for my kickass dress!

While Lola has seemingly managed not to be too overwhelmed by the backlash towards her armpit hair, it does beg the question - why do we still think it's ok to tell women what to do with their bodies? Growing armpit hair isn't the norm in today's society, but it is natural, and more comfortable for some women. Let's hope Lola's brave statement and response will help to normalise something that's, well, normal.
