How Turia Pitt achieved her 'impossible' goal
It’s been a big 18 months for Turia Pitt.
The 30-year-old has competed in the Ironman World Championships, trekked the gruelling Kokoda Trail, and was busily preparing to tackle Everest Base Camp when she discovered she was pregnant with her first child.
Yet this time six years ago, all of the above likely seemed impossible.

Turia, a mining engineer at the time, sustained burns to more than 60 per cent of her body when she was caught in a brushfire in September 2011.
She’s since undergone hundreds of surgeries and faces more.
The mum-to-be's latest Instagram post is an eye-opening reminder of the incredible resilience and motivation that’s helped her through such a life-altering experience.
The event involved a 3.8km swim, 180km bike ride and a 42km run.

There’s no arguing the difference between the two images is incredible, but Turia stresses the path from rehabilitation to finish line didn’t happen by magic or overnight.
“You only achieve big things by consistently working away at them,” she writes.
“Yes, at times I felt demoralised. Yes, I got overwhelmed. And yes, some days I wanted to give up.”
