There's something missing from the Trump family Christmas portrait

The official Trump family Christmas portrait is here.

"Merry Christmas from President Donald J. Trump and First Lady Melania Trump," the First Lady wrote on Twitter yesterday.

And along with the tweet, their first official Christmas photo, taken in the Cross Hall of the White House in Washington, D.C.

Lots of cosy fake frost, a comfortable-looking hard marble floor, and both the President and the First lady in cheerful shades of black.

A few hours later came a tweet from Second Lady Karen Pence: "Our official Christmas portrait has been released!"

She and Vice President Mike Pence were also dressed in black (although do check out his wildy Christmassy tie) – but they apparently didn't get any fake snow. Make of this what you will.

A lot of people (mainly on Twitter, because it's 2017 and this is how the internet keeps itself busy) pointed out the absence of Barron Trump, the Trumps' youngest son, in their portrait.

It's not always standard to include presidential children in the official Christmas portraits (just scroll back through this Business Insider gallery of cards from Christmas past). And Melania has spoken in the past about wanting to protect Barron from the public eye, so perhaps the absence isn't as strange as people are making out.

Still, it does come hot on the heels of another Barron-less First Family Christmas card – this one from the Republican Party.

Maybe Barron's doing what any self-respecting 11-year-old boy would do, and boycotting involvement in any Christmas photos altogether.
