Not many women have been named Time's Person of the Year. Here are those who have
Time magazine has just named former and incoming President of the United States Donald Trump as Person of the Year for 2024.
While Trump ultimately took out the top honour, the shortlist included several notable women who have had a lasting impact this year.
They include US Vice President Kamala Harris, Catherine, the Princess of Wales, Russian political leader Yulia Navalnaya and Mexican president Claudia Sheinbaum.
While Time has been naming its Person of the Year, formerly Man or Woman of the Year, since 1927, there have only been a select few women to receive the honour.

1936: Wallis Simpson
While Time's Person of the Year issue has been running annually since 1927, the first woman to receive the honour came almost 10 years later in 1937.
That woman was Wallis Simpson.
The American socialite had been married to her second husband when she met Edward, then the Prince of Wales.
After Edward's accession to the throne as King Edward VIII, Wallis had separated from Ernest to marry Edward.
The King's desire to marry a divorcee led to a consitutional crisis in the United Kingdom, leading Edward to voluntarily abdicate from the throne in 1936.
Of his decision, Edward declared that it was impossible to carry out his role "without the help and support of the woman I love".
Wallis was named Time's person of the Year, with the publication writing that she had been "the most-talked-about, written-about, headline and interest-compelling person in the world."
The Duke and Duchess of Windsor, as they were known from then onwards, went onto live for several years in the Bahamas before relocating to Paris for their remaining years.
1937: Soong Mei-Ling
Only a year later, another woman was named by the publication, but it was a joint honour with her husband.
Soong Mei-Ling, the then First Lady of China, and her husband General Chian Kai-shek, Leader of the Republic of China, were the first people to be jointly awarded Person of the Year by Time.
Although at the time, the honour was referred to as "Man and Wife of the Year".
1952: Queen Elizabeth II
It's surely a surprise to no one that the late Queen Elizabeth II received the honour.
She became the third woman in history to receive the honour of Time's Person of the Year.
The monarch was named Woman of the Year in 1952.
That was, of course, the year she became the Queen of England at just 25 after her father George VI died.
The monarch would go on to become England's longest reigning monarch before her death in 2022.
1986: Carazon Aquino
It was then more than 30 years before another woman was awarded Time's prestigious title.
That woman was Carazon Aquino, the then President of the Philippines.
Aquino became the country's first female president in February 1986 following the People Power Revolution.
She was a prominent figure of the revolution that ended the two-decade rule of her predecessor Ferdinant Marcos and resulted in the establishment of the current democratic Fifth Philippine Republic.
2002: The Whistleblowers - Cynthia Cooper
In 2002, Time's Person of the Year was not awarded to one person but instead three people – The Whistleblowers.
These three women were recognised for their efforts to uncover corruption within their respective workplaces.
Cooper, pictured, was among the three. The accountant served as the Vice President of Internal Audit at WorldCom helping to cover $3.8 billion in losses that had been covered up with phony bookkeeping.
2002: The Whistleblowers - Coleen Rowley
Coleen Rowley was named among The Whistleblowers.
She is a former FBI staff attorney who testified in regards to concerns that the FBI had ignored information of a suspected terrorist during the September 11 attacks.
It led to a two-year investigation by the Department of Justice.
2002: The Whistleblowers - Sherron Watkins
Sherron Watkins was also included in the honour.
The then vice-president of American energy company Enron warned of the company's improper accounting methods.
2005: Melinda French Gates
In 2005, Melinda Gates was named Person of the Year in a joint honour with her husband Bill Gates and musician and activist Bono.
Dubbed The Good Samaratins by Time, Melinda, Bill and Bono were celebrated for "being shrewd about doing good, for rewiring politics and re-engineering justice, for making mercy smarter and hope strategic and then daring the rest of us to follow."
2015: Angela Merkel
In 2015, Angela Merkel was named Time's Person of the Year.
That year marked Merkel's 10th year as the Chancellor of Germany.
She went on to serve as her country's leader for another six years, totalling 16 years in office.
She was also the first woman to hold that office.
