Daughter's surprise DNA testing gift to parents unravels secret mother kept for over 30 years

A father-daughter duo have been left gobsmacked after an innocent gift unravelled 30 years of lies.

TikTok user @sincerelysapphic wanted to surprise her mother, who was adopted, with a DNA testing kit so she could trace her biological family tree.

Not wanting to leave her father out, @sincerelysapphic bought one for him too — but neither of them could have dreamed that his results would reveal that he wasn't her biological father.

In a video that has been watched over 95,000 times, @sincerelysapphic explains that her father and herself found out at the same time that he wasn't biologically her father, a fact that apparently her mother knew for 30 years but had kept a secret. Watch above.

"Orders an ancestry kit to find my mum's biological family (she was adopted). Buys dad a kit to rule out his side of relatives from hers," she writes in the video.

"Months go by where I think my dad forgot to take the test and I ask him when he plans to. He lets me know he already did it.

"I sign on and search his name to find out he's not my DNA match."

After confronting her mum for answers, her mum revealed the revelation was true and told @sincerelysapphic the story and her biological father's name — and not only that, her mother left her father to raise a child that unknowingly was not his biologically by himself.

"She kept that secret 30 years and also left my dad to raise us as a single father when we were kids," she wrote in the video.

"Found this out this last week and have had trouble coping with the news. Never felt so betrayed."

The girl emphasised that despite the surprise and the fact that her father and herself do not share DNA, she will not stop considering her dad to be her "real" father, and told TikTok that she is "grateful" her dad had raised her.

"I'm grateful for the man who raised me and he will be the only one I ever consider my father. But what the heck?!" she wrote.

"I hope one day I can laugh at this. I'm working toward healing and forgiveness."

TikTok users flooded the video with comments of support.

Responding to one comment, @sincerelysapphic revealed more details about her dad's reaction to the revelation. In other comments, @sincerelysapphic said she has no interest or intentions of finding her biological father.

"He must be just as shocked as you. I am so sorry for this crazy messed up scenario you now find yourself in — but the love is strong between you!!!" one viewer commented.

To which she replied: "He was pretty shocked, but I'm grateful for his reaction. He said, 'nothing changes, you are still mine.'"
