The most annoying roommate behaviours

What housemates consider bad roommate behaviour is subjective. For some it's toast crumbs in the communal butter.

NOTE: Butter should NEVER be communal

For others, it's the one who hogs the TV playing video games.

But when it comes to the official list of annoying roommate behaviours, it turns out money tops them all.

A new survey by RENTCafe has quizzed 1,500 adults in the US on roommate behaviours that drive them up the wall and they are:

1. Not paying rent 

2. Mean or insulting behaviour

3. Not paying shared bills

4. Substance use 

5. Illegal drug use

6. Passive aggressive behaviour

7. Immaturity

8. Offensive language

9. Offending your race or religion

10. Uncleanliness

11. Loud sex 

So from what we can gather, it seems that as long as you pay your bills and are reasonably friendly, you might get away with making the odd mess or a few sessions of loud sex.

Unless...

And this isn't my story. This happened to a friend of mine.

My friend was living with two other people, a boy and a girl. They were all in their early twenties.

When you have three young and attractive people living together, it's never going to end well. At first they all got along great, until the girls both developed feelings for the boy and he reciprocated to only one.

That left the other female roommate as the odd one out which caused the friendship to disintegrate which lead to points 6, 7, 8 and 10 being activated.

They plodded along awkwardly for a while but when the romance fizzled out - as they inevitably do - everyone wanted to get out of there as quickly as possible.

However they were force to wait until the lease was up, not being willing or able to find roommates to replace them.

The moral to this story is, discreetly place a copy of this list in the share home somewhere and hopefully problems will be kept to a minimum.

For those of us who have never had roommates (I know, I don't know how I managed that either), we can only live off vicariously through your interesting experiences which will hopefully be played out on social media in great detail.
