US teen asks former teacher to adopt him
When 16-year-old Anthony turned up to his English class last November, he didn't expect to receive a lecture from his new mum.
But, by January he had asked Bernie Berry — his English teacher — to adopt him.
Anthony had been living with different foster families in Texas since he was nine.
"How many kids my age get adopted nowadays?", he told ABC after his adoption ceremony last week. He said he wasn't interested in finding a 'forever family' until he met Bernie.
He asked her to become his mum by asking her to look at an adoption website while she was helping him with his homework.
"They struck a deal", she said.
Now, they'll spend Thanksgiving and Christmas together for the first time — and the pair can't wait.
She told the news site he was a "model student", and she's "more than elated".
"I have a son for the rest of my life", she added.
