Supermarket Specials: The new supermarket food range that could rival Uber Eats

Let me begin by clarifying a story that has been going around about Aldi this week, suggesting the discount grocery chain was planning to launch an online store for its alcohol and special buys.

This is not happening. At least, not for now.

An ALDI spokesperson confirmed there was not a formal announcement by the CEO today (March 23) about ecommerce, and that nothing was confirmed.

"We understand Australian shoppers are always seeking convenience in their busy lives," the spokesperson said.

"As our CEO Tom Daunt mentioned today, it is inevitable that eCommerce will be part of our future. Everything we do, we do with our 'Good Different' approach to business, so as we look at how we bring this to ALDI shoppers, we'll ensure this doesn't compromise our ability to give customers exceptional value on high quality items."

Personally, I prefer the market-style approach to retail ALDI offers customers. There are no bells and whistles, just really good products and great prices — and a few things you don't always really need in the form of their weekly Special Buys.

So, don't go all fancy on me, ALDI. I love you just the way you are.

On that note, here are this week's supermarket specials.

ALDI

ALDI continues to expand its range of ethically-diverse food offerings in the frozen food section. If you stock up regularly enough, there's truly no more need to order Uber Eats. Delicious and interesting food is minutes away.

Under the Urban Eats frozen range you can get dumplings, gyoza and also spanakopita, roti paratha and Thai-style noodles.

Woolies

Woolworths continues to provide plenty of affordable seafood offerings for customers observing the period of Lent ahead of Easter Day. And, for the non-religious, they make for a delightfully healthier lunch or dinner option.

John West tuna 'chunk style' 95g tins are half-price at $1.15, Bird's Eye Oven Bake Fillets are $5 per pack, and Oceans Chef Atlantic Salmon portions are $18 per kilo.

Also at Woolies this week:

Bega Tasty Sliced 30-pack $7;

Uncle Toby's Traditional Oats half-price at $2.12;

Brushed potatoes 5 kilos $5.90.

Coles

Coles knows families are preparing for Easter festivities, offering great deals on a large range of cheeses for that crowd-pleasing cheese board or grazing plate.

Cracker Barrel cheese slices or blocks have been discounted to $5.15, South Cape Gouda is $4.70 and Black Swan crafted dips are 2 for $6.

Also at Coles this week:

Coles rosemary crackers $1.80 per pack;

Naval oranges $4.90 per kilo;

Golden Crumpets 6 squares $2.50 per pack.

The Reject Shop

I always head to The Reject Shop at this time of the year to stock up on Easter arts and crafts.

They make great gifts for kids who already have been given one too many chocolate eggs, and keep children busy so adults can take their time over lunch and dessert at Easter.

This year, you can purchase 'make your own Easter Bunny' foam jump up packs for $3, Easter hats with ears for $4 and Easter Popstick picture craft kits for $3 each.
