Substitute teacher fired for singing Britney Spears in class

A teacher in the US has been fired after he sang 'Toxic' by Britney Spears in front of his class.

The teacher was working as a substitute teacher at Bowie High School on Friday when he was recorded belting out the song by pop star.

It seems he was operating a karaoke machine as well as disco lights.

While he can certainly carry a tune, he was subsequently asked to leave the school. A representative of Austin Independent School District (AISD) stated the teacher was let go for not "following best practice".

So far the teacher has not been identified.

KXAN was told about the incident, with a student sending the video asking what they thought of the teacher's rendition.

An AISD spokesperson told KXAN: "I've heard worse Britney Spears covers, but the lights are a bit much.

"All processes were followed, it was simply a case of a substitute not following our practices."

It has been reported the teacher brought the karaoke machine and disco lights into the classroom himself.

The teacher's choice of 'Toxic' by Britney Spears is certainly interesting, seeing as the singer was recently released from an oppressive conservatorship and has been celebrating her hard-fought freedom.

The teacher is certainly 'Team Britney'.

The father of the male student who recorded the teacher told the New York Post his son found it all "a bit confusing".

"We didn't know what this was all about until our son explained what it was," Andre Abelkis told the publication. "Yes, we were a little upset that a substitute teacher would not care about teaching the class and just do something for themselves. And, yes, I think the teacher should have been removed from class."

It isn't known if the teacher is still working for the school district.
