Student accidentally given $1.3m grant, goes on spending spree

A university student who was accidentally given $1.3m instead of a $130 monthly allowance allegedly “became very glamorous” after suddenly receiving the huge amount of money.

Accountancy student Sibongile Mani, 27, who was on benefits to assist with her food and book costs didn’t question the large sum when it popped into her account.

Friends suspected she had won the lottery after suddenly living a lavish lifestyle on what became a 73-day spending spree.

It’s understood the Walter Sisulu University student first raised eyebrows when she replaced her hairstyle for a more expensive weave.

But now, Sibongile is hitting back after being labelled a “thief”.

Taking to Facebook to tell her “side of the story”, the South African student says her life has been turned upside down over the saga, in which she insists, she did nothing wrong but at the same time doesn’t deny anything.

”Today my personal life has become a social media scandal,” Sibongile began.

“I have been named and shamed in public. Today, I am a bad person, a person who stole the money of students.”

“With that being said, and being named a thief, but as we all know in every story there is truth and there are lies with the very same story”.
