Sophie Delezio reveals she needed surgery to be able to walk down the aisle next year

Sophie Delezio has revealed she had to recently undergo surgery so she could walk down the aisle at her wedding next year.

The 22-year-old announced she was engaged to her childhood sweetheart, Joseph Salerno earlier this year.

Now, the inspirational Sydneysider has shared she underwent an operation to be able to walk at her nuptials.

Delezio shared photos of herself and Salerno in separate pics at the hospital, including one where she was lying in a hospital bed.

"Sorry for my radio silence lately... Life threw me a major curveball and I had to undergo surgery in order for me to walk down the aisle next year!!" she wrote.

"Plus, in the midst of all that chaos, we moved house right in the middle of my recovery!"

Delezio assured her 20,200 Instagram followers she is "settled now and on the mend."

After thanking everyone for their support and patience during her hiatus from social media, the 22-year-old went on to share a heartwarming message for her fiancé.

"Huge shoutout to the most amazing fiancé. I couldn't have gone through this without you," she sweetly said.

The inspirational survivor re-shared a photo from the post of her sleeping in hospital, writing "I've been doing a lot of this lately."

Delezio then shared a mirror selfie on her next Instagram slide, promising her social media following she is now "ready to catch you up on the roller coaster of a month its been."

In April this year, Sophie Delezio revealed to Women's Weekly that she had had "well over 100" surgeries since her initial accident.

In 2003, Delezio survived after a car crashed through her childcare centre on the Northern Beaches.

By the time she was just five-years-old, she had survived a second near-fatal car accident.

"Last year was the first for 20 years, since my first accident, with no surgeries. Pretty amazing," she told the magazine.

Delezio exclusively announced her engagement to her long-time friend Joseph Salerno to Women's Weekly, with the pair sharing they are planning to marry in 2024 in the Hunter Valley.
