Mum reacts as daughter reveals the 'hidden meaning' of a side part
Parting your hair on the side might seem like an innocuous styling choice, but as far as Generation Z is concerned, it's a telltale signifier of being "old".
Yep, the side part — favoured particularly by those of us who came of age in the 2000s — is now officially démodée. Cause of death: TikTok.
One woman has been confronted with this news in a particularly rough way, courtesy of her daughter.

When Chantalle Stott (@divine_curves11) came across a TikTok video referencing Gen Z's disdain for the side part, she sought confirmation off-screen.
"I turned to my 21-year-old daughter and said, 'Is the side part just for old people? Is that why you part your hair in the middle?'" Stott told her viewers.

When her daughter responded by making a face, the Canadian mum realised there was more to it.
"I'm not trying to be young or anything, but I was like, 'This is an actual thing? Like, it's not just a joke?'" Stott said.

"And she says to me, 'Yeah, Mum. Not to be rude, but a side part's kind of the equivalent to an old man combover'."
Just take a moment to absorb that.
"Yeah, she said that," Stott added, quipping, "She's currently homeless."
Stott isn't the only one stunned by the younger generation's malignment of the hairstyle.

Plenty of Twitter users have voiced their horror after learning their go-to part is a source of mockery on TikTok.
Oh, and if you want to feel even worse, skinny jeans and the use of the 'crying-laughing' emoji are also signs you're "old".

"Get a tiktok they said. It'll be fun they said. Now here I am feeling old for my side part and skinny jeans," one post reads.
"Great. Quarter life crisis incoming," another person declared.
Seems a lot of millennials and Gen Xers will be attempting to force their hair into a centre part in the coming days...
