Family finally meet newborn believed to be Savanna LaFontaine-Greywind's daughter
The family of the eight-month pregnant woman whose body was found in a North Dakota river on Sunday have met the baby they believe to be hers.
Savanna LaFontaine-Greywind's parents and partner of seven years, father of little Haisley Jo, Ashton Matheny, got to meet the newborn for the first time on Wednesday.
The 21-year-old told local news station WDAY the premature bub is "my miracle baby".
"It was the best feeling I've ever had," Ashton said.
"I wish Savanna could have been there to enjoy it with me. After all these dark days, she lit my day right up."
While DNA tests are still pending, the family have no doubts it's Savannah's baby after seeing her.
"She's Savanna all the way," the proud dad told reporters.
While Savanna's mum, Norberta Greywind, has also told Valley News, the newborn is the spitting image of her daughter.
The meeting comes just days after baby was discovered in the apartment of neighbours Brooke Lynn Crews and her boyfriend William Hoehn, who have been arrested and charged over the 22-year-old's death.
Savanna's body was discovered wrapped in a plastic bag in the Red River in Fargo on Sunday night, eight days after her disappearance.
She left her apartment to help 38-year-old Brooke pin a dress and was texting her 21-year-old partner at the time. However, she stopped replying and was not seen since.
Her mother knew something was wrong as Savanna's wallet and car were still there and she was in no condition to walk long distances. She had also just ordered a pizza, which remained un-eaten.
Police checked the neighbour’s apartment on a number of occasions but on Thursday, Aug 24, after a tip off by a neighbour of a crying baby, police entered with force and found the couple with the newborn.
The pair have been charged with conspiracy to commit murder, conspiracy to commit kidnapping, and providing false information.
