William and Kate further distance themselves from Harry and Meghan

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have further distanced themselves from Harry and Meghan, changing the name of their Instagram account.

Previously known as @KensingtonRoyal, the account is now @DukeandDuchessofCambridge.

The previous name was meant to reflect both couples, formerly known 'Fab Four', as they worked together in the monarchy. Now the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have split with the monarchy, it is only fitting that Prince William and Kate's social media accounts accurately reflect their work and place in the royal family.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex once lived on the grounds of Kensington Palace at Nottingham Cottage, while William and Kate and their three children reside in apartment 1A of the lavish residence. Harry and Meghan later moved to Frogmore Cottage in Windsor.

William and Harry's Twitter handle remains @KensingtonRoyal for now, however the name of the account itself was changed to The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge in May 2020.

It was following the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle when the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex launched their shared Twitter account followed by an Instagram account later that year. They regularly appeared together at joint engagements including for the mental health charity Heads Together.

Harry and Meghan resigned as working members of the British royal family in January 2020 and have since relocated to the US where they have rebranded their work and endeavours under the Archwell brand. In early 2021 they were stripped of their remaining royal patronages, with the roles redistributed to remaining senior royals.

With the death of Prince Philip on April 9, there has been speculation as to what the next generation of British rule will look like.

When Queen Elizabeth passes Prince Charles will become King and Camilla Queen Consort; Prince William will become Prince of Wales with Kate by his side.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have stepped up since Harry and Meghan's resignation and the fallout from their bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey in March.

The coupled announced the launch of a YouTube account today and their first video is a montage of their best moments together including charming outtakes showing their easy banter.
