Will and Kate attend Top Gun screening: Royal screening with cast and crew

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have attended a Top Gun: Maverick screening in London overnight, meeting with cast and crew.

The screening was held at Leicester Square and hosted by Paramount Pictures and The Film and TV Charity, the 72nd Royal Film Performance hosted by the charity.

The charity supports those working behind the scenes in the British film and television industry.

Prince William, 39, and Kate Middleton, 40, were greeted by Top Gun star Tom Cruise before meeting with cast and crew including Miles Teller, Jon Hamm and Jennifer Connolly as well as director Joseph Kosinski.

The duchess wore a black floor-length Roland Mouret gown with a white off-the-shoulder neckline, her hair straight and tucked behind her ears.

Prince William chose a classic black tuxedo and bow tie, pairing the look with Crockett & Jones loafers embroidered with F18 planes making his love of aircraft known.

The royal was a pilot with the Royal Air Force, flying a helicopter and working as a rescue pilot before retiring to focus on royal duties.

It is understood the duke and duchess had already seen the movie at a special screening hosted by Cruise who heard Prince William was a fan of the original movie released in 1986.

Cruise told My London he and the royal have " a lot in common".

"We both love England and we're both aviators, we both love flying," he added.

This is the second time Cruise, 59, has appeared publicly with the royals this week.

The actor also took part in the Queen's Platinum Jubilee Celebration event, serving as narrator. The special is set to air on ITV.
