It's been the question on every royal watcher's mind since the news first broke last week that both King Charles and Catherine, Princess of Wales were undergoing surgery – why was the king's diagnosis of an enlarged prostate disclosed while the source of Catherine's abdominal surgery was not?

We now have an answer, with a palace insider giving insight to the two different approaches.

Speaking to People, the insider shared that in Charles' case, "It was sensible to be more open about it, as otherwise, people might have thought the worst."

As the monarch, Charles' health being in jeopardy means the crown is in jeopardy, with the potential loss of the King.

Additionally, he himself wanted to announce the news of his enlarged prostate to bring awareness to and destigmatize the issue .

It proved effective, with there being a notable increase in men making appointments for checks, as well as a surge of Google searches for "Prostate checks" in what experts call the "King Charles Effect."

"We're seeing more interest from men generally... For a long time men have been reluctant to speak about it," Urological Society of Australia & NZ Vice President Damien Bolton said, as per 9News.

The Princess of Wales, however, wanted to keep her condition private for the sake of her family, hiding the matter even from those closest to her.

She apologised for causing the public to worry in the statement announcing the completion of her surgery.

"She hopes that the public will understand her desire to maintain as much normality for her children as possible; and her wish that her personal medical information remains private," the palace's statement said.
