Where the Queen sits on Britain's rich list in 2020

The Queen is now the 372nd richest person in Britain, according to the Sunday Times annual rich list.

Her Majesty is worth £350 million (AUD $658 million) as of 2020.

The Queen is the head of the British Royal Family trust and much of her income comes from trusts that are part of the Royal Collection. The trusts include certain national treasures, including the Crown Jewels and the Tower of London, which the Queen holds for the rest of the nation. Also included are wind farms and horses.

Though she doesn't own them outright, they make up her vast portfolio.

Her Majesty is also famously frugal, with Sir Evelyn de Rothschild, who was an adviser to the Queen, once saying, "No one is tighter at spending than the Queen. She grew up during the war. Very disciplined."

These comments were reported by the Standard, with the publication also recalling royal finance expert David McClure previously claimed horses are the Queen's only big extravagance.

The remainder of the British rich list is made up mostly of business people, although the list shows that £54 billion (AUD $101 billion) has been lost by Britain's super rich due to the coronavirus crisis over the past two months. Some billionaires have lost as much as £6 billion (AUD $11 billion) since the list was published in 2019.

Inventor Sir James Dyson is now the country's richest person, his wealth growing by £3.6 billion (AUD $6 billion) to reach £16.2 billion (AUD $30 billion) in 2020. This is despite Sir James, 72, having lost £500 million (AUD $941 million) of his own money on a scrapped electric car project.

There were a record 25 female billionaires on this year's list although those who placed in the top 10 were there due to money they had inherited.

The top 10 richest people in Britain are:

1. Sir James Dyson and family, household goods and technology, £16.2 billion (AUD $30 billion);

2. Sri and Gopi Hinduja and family, industry and finance, £16 billion (AUD $30 billion);

3. David and Simon Reuben, property and internet, £16 billion (AUD $30 billion);

4. Sir Leonard Blavatnik, investment, music and media, £15.78 billion (AUD $29 billion);

5. Sir Jim Ratcliffe, Ineos chemical giant, £12.15 billion (AUD $22 billion);

6. Kirsten and Jorn Rausing, inheritance and investment, £12.1 billion (AUD $22 billion);

7. Alisher Usmanov, mining and investment, £11.68 billion (AUD $21 billion);

8. Guy, George and Galen Jr Weston and family, retail, £10.53 billion (AUD $20 billion);

9. Charlene de Carvalho-Heineken and Michel de Carvalho, inheritance, brewing and banking, £10.3 billion (AUD $19 billion);

10. The Duke of Westminster and the Grosvenor family, property, £10.29 billion (AUD $19 billion).
