UK TV host apologises after he 'accidentally announced the death of the Queen' in interview slip up

A UK TV presenter is recovering after an unfortunate slip up on live TV left fans shocked.

Alastair Campbell accidentally said Queen Elizabeth had died, during a Good Morning Britain interview about grief with soccer star Vinnie Jones, who lost his wife to cancer.

"We've talked a lot about Prince Philip after the death of the Queen…," Campbell said, as he began asking a question on Wednesday morning's show.

The British journalist, who is filling in on the breakfast TV show following the departure of Piers Morgan, then apologised as soon as the camera came back to him and co-host Susanna Reid.

"Can I just say, Susanna, I think I may have accidentally announced the death of the Queen. I meant Prince Philip," he clarified.

Reid was sympathetic to the slip, reassuring her co-host viewers knew it was a mistake.

"People knew exactly what you meant," she said.

However, the slip up had already made it to Twitter, with people posting about the gaffe.

"According to Alistair Campbell the Queen died," one person tweeted with shocked face emojis.

"Did he say Death of the Queen then??" another asked.

Many were quick to correct the TV host, saying: "The Queen's not dead..."

One quipped: "Queen calls up GMB to confirm she is still very much alive!"

Campbell has been at the desk all week and was drafted in after Morgan left the show in March, following comments about Meghan Markle in the aftermath of her Oprah Winfrey interview.
