Singer talks about 'top secret' rehearsal with Kate Middleton ahead of carols performance

Singer Tom Walker has spoken about his 'top secret' rehearsal with the Duchess of Cambridge ahead of their performance at a Christmas carols event last month.

The Scottish singer-songwriter spoke about the experience on Good Morning Britain, saying the duchess is "fantastic" and "a really talented musician".

The royal accompanied Walker on the piano for his performance of the song 'For Those Who Can't Be Here' during the Together at Christmas carols event at Westminster Abbey, which aired on ITV on Christmas Eve, surprising fans with her musical ability.

"We had a rehearsal together, a 'top-secret' rehearsal, just to make sure we were both comfortable with playing with each other and so she could get her head around the arrangement of the song," he explained.

When asked where the rehearsal took place, Walker informed the show hosts it was held at Metropolis Studios.

"I'm sure I'm allowed to say that at this point. At the time it was very top secret," he continues.

The duchess, who also hosted the event, wrote on Instagram: "Together at Christmas brought together so many inspirational individuals for a night of wonderful carols and music.

"But above all, it was about celebrating the goodwill, acts of kindness, love, empathy, and compassion which have helped people come through these difficult times.

"Thank you to all involved for making this happen."

Speaking with The Sun, Walker says his performance with the duchess was "a wonderful experience", describing her as "so warm".

"She made the effort to thank all the musicians but it was us who felt so grateful to be part of something so special," he explains.

Fans were delighted with Kate's performance, with one commenting on social media: "She plays the piano too? Now I love her even more."

"A perfect performance by you both," writes another.

The duchess began taking piano lessons as a child. She also plays the flute and at one stage took singing lessons.

Let's hope for more performances in the future.
