'Overflowing with love and joy': Sarah Ferguson gushes over newest grandchild in social media post

Sarah Ferguson and Prince Andrew have welcomed their fourth grandchild with the arrival of Princess Beatrice's second daughter, Athena.

The Duchess of York took to social media to gush over her newest grandchild - who is little sister to Sienna, three, and Wolfie, eight, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi's son from a previous relationship.

"Overflowing with love and joy to be able to welcome Athena Elizabeth Rose into the world," Fergie, as she's affectionately known, wrote alongside a photo of the newborn.

"She is already so adored and I'm incredibly blessed to be a Granny once again.

"So proud of Edo, Beatrice and the rest of my little 5-a-side team!"

Proud new dad Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, who took to the sweet snap of the seemingly camera-shy bub covering her face in her oversized onesie, commented on the post.

"The best Gigi," he wrote, referring to what Fergie's grandkids call her.

Edo also shared a post on social media, following the official announcement from Buckingham Palace.

The Princess of Wales's brother, James Middleton, was among those to send their well-wishes to the happy couple.

"Congratulations," he commented on Edo's post.

Former Luxembourg princess Tessy Antony De Nassau offered her "congratulations" as well to Edo and Beatrice.

The now-divorced Fergie and the Duke of York have two daughters together, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, who each gave birth to two children.

Princess Eugenie has two sons with her husband, Jack Brooksbank - August, three, and Ernest, 20 months.

Proud aunt Princess Eugenie also shared her delight at the family's newest arrival.

When Beatrice's pregnancy was announced last year, Fergie said on social media she was excited to become a grandmother again.

"Words cannot express the joy and excitement I feel as you and Edo prepare to welcome another precious addition to your beautiful family," she wrote at the time.

"Becoming a granny again fills my heart with so much happiness and gratitude... I cannot wait to meet this little one."

And the wait was over early with Athena arriving on January 22, 2025, weeks before her early UK springtime due date.
