'Nothing much to lose now': Royal biographer says Sarah Ferguson is writing a book, but there won't be huge bombshells for one reason

Sarah Ferguson is writing a new book, according to royal biographer Andrew Lownie.

The author of Entitled: The Rise and Fall of the House of York says the former Duchess of York has "nothing much to lose now and she wants some money".

"I know she's writing a book with a well-known writer who's friendly with her," Lownie tells nine.com.au during a press briefing in London.

"I suspect a publisher will commission it and I suspect for lots of money, and I suspect she will give a big sit-down interview and make lots of money."

Lownie claims "people won't believe it but they will still buy it", giving it the potential to become a best-seller and mount her epic comeback, while re-filling the piggy bank.

However, the author doesn't believe it will contain any major bombshells like we saw from Prince Harry in his memoir Spare, for one specific reason – "the girls".

"The one pressure they have over her is the daughters," Lownie tells nine.com.au at the Foreign Press Association event.

"If she doesn't think to really upset them [British royal family], then the daughters will lose their Christmas invitation to Sandringham, possibly their titles etc and that's how they're making their money at the moment.

"Every time they [a member of the York family] go to Sandringham, their value in the Middle East goes up.

"So I think she's going to accept that it's a relay race, and the daughters have picked up the baton."

Fergie, as she's been affectionately known since 1986, when she wed the former Prince Andrew, has been further humiliated in the past week with the newly released Epstein files.

They detail just how close a relationship she had with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, even taking her daughters Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie along to visit him shortly after he was released from jail.

It's understood that in the wake of this latest cache of email correspondence, which has seen her charity Sarah's Trust shutter for the foreseeable future, Ferguson's hired a new PR team.

And Lownie says, despite all odds, we could see a Fergie comeback.

"I've always described her as a Houdini of the royal family and she's someone with 19 lives, rather than nine," he tells nine.com.au.

"She's going to certainly try and come back and she's certainly going to, I think, write a book."

As pressure for Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor to give evidence in the US heats up and an on-going investigation by Thames Valley Police in the UK as to whether any sensitive information was passed from the King's brother to Epstein, Ferguson has remained largely unscathed Lownie says.

He doesn't believe the former Duchess of York's been asked to give any evidence about the matter, despite so many appearances in the three million files released.

King Charles has addressed the scandal engulfing the British royal family briefly and vowed to co-operate with police in their investigations, months after stripping his younger brother of all his titles.

The former Prince Andrew was also booted out of Royal Lodge in Windsor and moved under the cover of darkness to a cottage on the King's private Sandringham estate.

Ferguson, 66, is currently believed to be alongside her younger daughter Princess Eugenie in Qatar, where the 35-year-old art gallery director was spotted last week, attending Art Basel Qatar.
