Fergie reacts to Princess Eugenie's baby news: 'I cannot wait to be a grandmother'

Sarah Ferguson says she 'cannot wait to be a grandmother'.

The 60-year-old took to social media following the news her younger daughter Princess Eugenie is pregnant with her first child.

"I am so excited by the news that Eugenie and Jack are expecting their first child," the Duchess of York began, alongside a new image of the parents-to-be.

"Thrilled for them both and in my 60th year cannot wait to be a grandmother.

"Welcoming a new baby into the York family is going to be a moment of profound joy."

The baby will be some good news for the family after a difficult 12 months.

First there was the scandal surrounding Prince Andrew and his friendship with convicted sex-offender Jeffrey Epstein, which led to the Duke of York stepping down as a working royal.

Princess Beatrice was also forced to postpone her May wedding amid the global coronavirus pandemic, before marrying Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi in an intimate ceremony in July.

Expectant mum Eugenie posted about the upcoming arrival on her own Instagram, shortly after the official announcement from Buckingham Palace.

"Jack and I are so excited for early 2021," the 30-year-old captioned the post of little booties.

The official Palace statement read: "Her Royal Highness Princess Eugenie and Mr Jack Brooksbank are very pleased to announce that they are expecting a baby in early 2021.

"The Duke of York and Sarah, Duchess of York, Mr and Mrs George Brooksbank, The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh are delighted with the news."
