Sarah Ferguson has marked her first birthday without the Queen in the company of her beloved corgis.

The Duchess of York posted a number of photos to celebrate her 63rd birthday, playing with the two corgis she inherited from the late monarch after her passing on September 8.

In her caption, Fergie described the dogs, Muick and Sandy, as "the presents that keep giving."

After the Queen's death, the corgis joined her and her ex-husband Prince Andrew's five Norfolk terriers at their residence in Royal Lodge, Windsor, the combination of which Fergie admits "all balance out".

"The carpet moves as I move, but I've got used to it now," she joked in a previous interview with The Telegraph.

Fergie added that it was "a big honour" to have taken on the "national treasures", who had "been taught well."

Muick and Sandy, the two remaining dogs belonging to Queen Elizabeth, were originally gifted to her by Prince Andrew, as well as her granddaughter, Princess Beatrice respectively.

So great was the Queen's affection for the corgis that they were in the room with her when she died.

They also played a part in her funeral processions, waiting outside Windsor Castle when the Queen's coffin arrived for the last time.
