Royal family to wear mourning bands in honour of Prince Philip
The British royal family will wear mourning bands when they carrying out public engagements, in honour of the late Prince Philip, who passed away aged 99 on April 9.
Traditionally, members and representatives of the royal family would have been expected to wear black or dark colours and mourning bands, once the death is confirmed.
Members of Parliament may also wear black armbands on their left arm, as part of the mourning period.

Queen Elizabeth, Prince Philip's wife of 73 years, is given an official mourning period of eight days. According to Majesty magazine's editor Joe Little, she'll return to "business as usual" after two weeks of mourning.

"I think when you get to a certain age you become accustomed to people close to you dying and it certainly isn't a surprise, although it's terribly upsetting, it's just part of life's rich tapestry," the royal expert explained.
The Duke of Edinburgh will not have a state funeral, according to the College of Arms in the UK.

"His Royal Highness's body will lie at rest in Windsor Castle ahead of the funeral in St George's Chapel," they stated on their website. "This is in line with custom and with His Royal Highness's wishes.
"The funeral arrangements have been revised in view of the prevailing circumstances arising from the COVID-19 pandemic and it is regretfully requested that members of the public do not attempt to attend or participate in any of the events that make up the funeral.

Prince Philip's death was announced by the royal family in a statement.
"It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty The Queen has announced the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.
"His Royal Highness passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle.
"The Royal Family join with people around the world in mourning his loss."
