Why the Queen always wears yellow during her royal tours of Australia

Queen Elizabeth II always wears bright colours when she's out an about on official duties—but there's a particular hue the monarch favours during her royal tours in Australia.

Her Majesty has incorporated the colour yellow in her wardrobe as a nod to our country, ever since her first visit to our shores in 1954.

"Certainly she has referenced our country, our national colours in her dress," Juliet Rieden, author of The Royals in Australia, explains in the latest episode of 9Honey's royals podcast The Windsors.

"When she came here that first time, she had that famous wattle dress made, which William Dargie painted and we have that painting of the Queen in Government Houses around Australia."

In addition to her yellow outfits, Rieden says there's a particular accessory Her Majesty tends to wear when on Aussie shores.

"She had the brooch that Australia had given her, the wattle brooch, that she has worn on many occasions when she has been here," she says.

It seems the Queen's colour-coding ways have influenced the new generation of royals; we often see Meghan and Catherine wearing colours or designers with ties to the country or region they visit.
