The royal tour that's being overshadowed by Kate and William next door in Pakistan

While the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are making headlines across the world for their first ever official visit to Pakistan, another royal couple is in the region but, in comparison, they're flying under the radar.

King Willem-Alexander and his wife Queen Maxima, of the Netherlands, are in India for a four-day tour and so far, it's been full of activity and colour.

Their Majesties are visiting the country with stops in New Delhi, Mumbai and the state of Kerala.

The state visit aims to strengthen ties between the Netherlands and India, particularly amid India's rise as a superpower within the region. The tour has a special focus on water technology, maritime developments, health, sustainable agriculture, social initiatives and cultural heritage. 

Queen Maxima is known for her bold style choices and she's worn some pretty incredible outfits of the tour so far.

On arrival, the 48-year-old mother-of-three wore a red suit and shirt by Dutch-Danish designer Claes Iversen, that she had been seen in just days before in Amsterdam.

During the first day of tour, Maxima wore an off-the-shoulder grey lace dress by Natan, complete with a matching headpiece and aquamarine jewels.

Queen Maxima and King Willem-Alexander were officially welcomed to India by the country's President Ram Nath Kovind and his wife, Savita, at the presidential palace before visiting the Raj Ghat monument, the memorial site dedicated to Mahatma Gandhi.

They then met Prime Minister Narendra Modi before having a costume change for the evening's state banquet.

Maxima wore a bespoke beaded gown by Dutch designer Jan Taminiau, in the style of a traditional Indian saree. The fabric of Maxima's dress is believed to have come from a saree given to Maxima's mother-in-law, Queen Beatrix, when she visited India several years ago before abdicating the throne in favour of her son, Willem-Alexander. Maxima accessorised her stunning outfit with large diamonds from the royal collection including the Dutch diamond bandeau-style tiara.

On the second day of their tour, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima visited a school in New Delhi, which runs a program aimed at encouraging girls to stay in school and discouraging boys from engaging in violence.

The royal couple ended their day with a visit to the Mausoleum of Safdarjung, one of the city's most imposing sites. They, they spoke with Indian students who had recently returned from an exchange program to the Netherlands.
