Queen Mary of Denmark has embraced the start of summer in Europe in a chic orange floral dress during a solo engagement in Copenhagen.

The Australian-born Danish royal brought a pop of colour to the festivities while at a special appearance at Vartov College in Denmark's capital, dressed in an orange maxi dress designed by none other than Aussie brand Zimmermann.

Mary appeared to be hosting the annual Maratonsang event at the Copenhagen university, a tradition which is held on the longest day of the year in Denmark – also known as summer solstice in Europe.

The Queen, 52, joined hundreds of other Danish citizens in the courtyard of the college to sing and celebrate the sun's longevity on June 21.

Mary was all smiles as she was photographed arriving at the event and speaking to the crowd, which included a celebratory service with several songs with Danish themes.

Photos of Mary arriving showed the newly-minted Queen had a short speech prepared for the traditional Danish event, which has been held annually since 2010, according to Vartov College's website.

It's not the first time Mary has worn Zimmermann to royal events. The brand is a favourite of the Tasmanian-born Danish Queen, with Mary seen wearing designs from Zimmermann on several different occasions throughout her royal career.

Mary matched her floral dress with a pair of striking orange heels from designer Malone Souliers and some statement orange and blue dangling earrings. While on stage, Mary also donned a pair of stylish tortoise shell reading glasses.

The royal added a subtle yet touching detail to her outfit with a simple piece of jewellery, a delicate gold chain with the letter F – a sweet tribute to her husband, King Frederik X of Denmark.

Mary's nod to her husband comes just weeks after the Danish royals celebrated their milestone 20th wedding anniversary.

Earlier in June, the King and Queen of Denmark made a joint appearance to celebrate the 175th anniversary of the Constitution in Copenhagen.
