Royal family wish Harry and Meghan's daughter Lilibet a happy first birthday

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's daughter Lilibet turned one on Saturday, amid the Queen's Platinum Jubilee weekend.

Members of the royal family took to social media to share their wish for the young birthday girl, who the public have only seen once before in the Sussex Christmas card photo.

The Royal Family account led the charge, sending a message on behalf of Queen Elizabeth to the monarch's namesake.

"Wishing Lilibet a very Happy 1st Birthday!" they tweeted with a balloon emoji.

Moments later messages from Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall's account featured a cake emoji and said: "Wishing Lilibet a very happy 1st birthday today!"

"Wishing a very happy birthday to Lilibet, turning one today!," The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's account tweeted.

The messages, all within minutes of each other, sent fans wild with thousands of likes and re-tweets almost instantly.

It's reported the Sussexes are spending the day "together privately as a family", according to biographer Omid Scobie.

The Finding Freedom author said recently at a Foreign Press Association event in London the couple have "become a lot more careful with the things that they are doing in their private lives" after their plans kept being made public.

"I think this is the one time that there are genuine moments they keep things to themselves."

While the couple's two children, Archie and Lilibet, have travelled with them from the US to the UK, they are "very much here in private capacities" and are not expected to join their parents at any of the public events.

"The kids are here simply so they can spend time with the Queen, with their great-grandmother, and I think that that's something that we've obviously been waiting for, for some time," Scobie told journalists.

It's understood Her Majesty met Lilibet, who was given the Queen's childhood nickname, for the first time on Wednesday before the central weekend celebrations began on Thursday.

The 96-year-old monarch is staying home at Windsor Castle today, skipping the Epsom Derby, so may see her namesake on the little one's first birthday.

Whether an official photo is released, as expected, remains to be seen.

The couple are reportedly making a "concerted effort" to make sure "they don't overshadow" the Jubilee weekend.

The Sussexes did however issue a video for son Archie's first birthday in 2020 and are expected to release something to celebrate the occasion.

It will be the first time fans will get to see the toddler since the family's Christmas card photo was issued via charity Team Rubicon, in December.

The family photo – taken by their engagement and wedding photographer Alexi Lubomirski – showed Lilibet as a newborn and was taken some three months earlier.
