Queen Elizabeth looking for live-in housekeeper

Queen Elizabeth is on the lookout for a live-in housekeeper to work across two locations.

Her Majesty requires help at Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle 40 hours a week, the position paying £7.97 ($14.06) per hour. While this is £1.93 ($3.40) under the UK Living Wage, it factors in accommodation and meals.

The job ad on the Royal Household website describes the permanent position as a "career pathway in hospitality" which will "help develop your housekeeping skills and expertise".

"Joining our professional team, you'll upkeep, clean and care for a wide range of interiors and items, ensuring they're presented to their very best," the ad explains.

"Learning from your colleagues, you'll gain the specialist professional skills needed, always aiming for the highest standards," it states. "And you'll welcome and take care of guests at functions and events too."

The employment package being offered includes "15 per cent employer contribution pension scheme plus benefits" as well as "live-in accommodation with meals provided"

The ad states that previous housekeeping or hospitality experience isn't essential.

Applicants should be proactive and able to tackle new challenges, take pride in their work and enjoy working as part of a team.

"Well organised and with good time management skills, you can meet deadlines and work efficiently to get jobs done," the ad reads. "Above all, you'll be eager to learn new skills and develop a hospitality career."

Interviews for the position will take place in July 2022.

Queen Elizabeth used to be based at Buckingham Palace but made Windsor Castle her main residence in 2020 as the coronavirus pandemic took hold.

Ongoing renovations at Buckingham Palace is in the middle of a 10-year $660 million reservicing, due to end in 2027. This reportedly contributed to her decision to move.

She and Prince Philip spent majority of their at Windsor Castle during the pandemic and ahead of his death in April 2021.

Buckingham Palace, which has been the official London residence of British sovereigns since 1837, is expected to become the new home of Prince Charles when he becomes King.
