Queen cancels highly anticipated diplomatic reception on advice from Foreign Secretary

The upcoming Diplomatic Reception at Windsor Castle, which was to be hosted by the Queen, has been postponed.

According to Buckingham Palace, the annual event which was set to take place on Wednesday was postponed on advice from Foreign Secretary Liz Truss.

Her majesty was anticipated to meet with hundreds of members of the Diplomatic Corps at the reception.

Buckingham Palace released a statement which read, "The Queen has accepted the Foreign Secretary's advice that the Diplomatic Reception at Windsor on Wednesday 2nd March should be postponed."

A source told the Daily Mail that the postponement was "Due to the current circumstances in Ukraine."

The annual Diplomatic Reception typically sees her majesty and other royal family members welcome over 500 members of the Diplomatic Corps into the Buckingham Palace.

The event is usually a white-tie affair and sees over 1,000 people from 130 different countries attend the gathering — including members of the British government, past Prime Ministers and the Archbishops of Canterbury and York.

This year, the event was set to take place at Windsor Castle.

The postponement follows news earlier this week that the monarch tested positive to COVID-19 — more than a week after coming face to face with Prince Charles who contracted the virus for a second time.

Buckingham Palace issued a statement confirming Her Majesty had caught coronavirus on Sunday February 20.

"Her Majesty is experiencing mild cold-like symptoms but expects to continue light duties at Windsor over the coming week," the statement read.

"She will continue to receive medical attention and will follow all the appropriate guidelines."
