The average wedding is now estimated to cost around $50,000, which is a lot of money by anyone’s standards… well, unless you’re a royal.

Even the most elaborate commoner nuptials are easily dwarfed by the magnitude of a Royal Wedding, the cost of which typically sits in the “several millions of dollars” price bracket.

It seems this trend won’t be changing anytime soon, with new estimates putting a price tag of well over $AUD3.6mil on Princess Eugenie’s upcoming wedding to Jack Brooksbank.

Hamish Shephard, founder of UK wedding planning app Bridebook, has looked closely at factors of the royal couple’s big day and done some number crunching for the Daily Mail.

A bespoke Stella McCartney bridal gown is likely to cost around $366,000, he tells the Daily Mail.

Despite all the glitz we’re likely to see on October 12, the most expensive aspect of the wedding is arguably the least glamorous: security.

According to Shephard, protecting the royal couple on the day, both at the ceremony and during their carriage ride around Windsor afterwards, will cost around $3.6million.

This will include sniper coverage and anti-drone technology.

However, that bill pales in comparison to the security cost of the more prominent royal weddings that have come before.

Police commissioner Anthony Stansfield told the BBC the protection for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s May 19 wedding was between $AUD3,522,500 and $7,045,000.

As for Prince William and Kate Middleton’s 2011 nuptials, it’s said an additional $54 million was dedicated to security measures.

Makes that $50,000 wedding price point seem a touch more reasonable, doesn’t it?
