Princess Eugenie's message of support for royals following rare appearance

Princess Eugenie has shared her support for the royal family following a rare appearance at a garden party hosted by Prince William.

Eugenie shared a photo on Instagram from the event held at Buckingham Palace on May 21.

"Come rain or shine, I was delighted to support my family yesterday to meet some special individuals at the Buckingham Palace Garden Party who have gone above and beyond to support their local communities and the country," Eugenie, 34, said.

She also shared a series of photos from the occasion, the Sovereign's Garden Party, which saw the royals and guests using umbrellas to protect themselves from the rain.

Prince William, who hosted the event on behalf of his father King Charles, was joined by his cousins.

Alongside Eugenie, Princess Beatrice, Zara and Mike Tindall and Peter Phillips.

He was also joined by the late Queen Elizabeth's cousin, the Duke of Gloucester and his wife, the Duchess of Gloucester.

King Charles has returned to limited royal duties as he continues outpatient treatment for cancer. The Princess of Wales remains on leave during her own cancer treatment.

Guests from both William and Catherine's patronages were in attendance along with military affiliations and other projects including Homewards, RAF Valley, Swim England, and tenants across the Duchy of Cornwall sites which is run by Prince William.

King Charles and Queen Camilla hosted the first garden party of the season on May 8 and were blessed with better weather.

On this occasion, they were joined by Princess Anne, Prince Edward and Sophie, the Duchess of Edinburgh, and the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester.

Princess Eugenie isn't an official working royal, nor are her cousins who joined her at Prince William's garden party. Instead, they each have their own careers, stepping up as needed.

It isn't known when the Princess of Wales will return to work.
