Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank have introduced their son to the world in a series of photos shared to social media.

Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip's granddaughter also revealed a sweet tribute to the newborn's great-grandfather in the baby boy's name.

The name also be a nod to Queen Victoria's husband Prince Albert, whose full name was Franz Albert August Karl Emanuel.

Princess Eugenie, 30, later explained the newborn's name further in an Instagram Story.

"On his grandfather's birthday weekend, thinking of my grandfather, we are introducing our little boy," she said, referencing Prince Andrew's birthday yesterday and Prince Philip currently being in hospital.

"He is named after his great grandfather and both of his x5 grandfathers."

The announcement of August's name, without any sort of prefix, suggests he does not have a royal title.

Regardless, the tiny tot for now is 11th in the line of succession to the British throne, behind his mother Eugenie, who is 10th. This will be bumped down the line after Baby Sussex is born later this year.

The new parents left hospital last Friday, February 12, and skipped the traditional baby photos on the steps of the facility in the freezing temperatures.

This is the first royal baby to make their official debut via social media.

Although, big cousin Archie - Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's son, who was also born at The Portland Hospital - did have his birth news announced on the now defunct Sussex Royal Instagram account.

While the family posed for official photos and their first interview days later, inside Windsor Castle, Archie's name was officially announced alongside a photo on social media.
