Charles Spencer shares a new photo of Princess Diana's resting place

Charles Earl Spencer, the late Princess Diana's brother, has shared a rare look inside her final resting place.

Princess Diana was just 36 when she was killed in a car accident in Paris in 1997, along with Dodi Fayed and their driver, Henri Paul.

The royal was buried at his family estate, Althorp, in the United Kingdom after a funeral at Westminster Abbey.

Spencer shared a snap of the unassuming island, which looked mystical in the hazy morning mist.

In the post's caption, Prince Harry and Prince William's uncle wrote: "Misty start to the day, at @althorphouse."

The Princess of Wales was buried within the family estate in a mausoleum on the Oval Lake to keep her safe from trespassers.

There is no public allowed to visit the island or her final resting place, with only her closest loved ones gaining access.

Many have wondered how the royals access Diana's grave. Prince Harry explained that there used to be a bridge to the small island.

In his memoir Spare, Prince Harry explained: "The bridge had been removed, to give my mother privacy, to keep intruders away."

Instead, royals use a boat to row their way over to visit her.

Recently, there was speculation that Diana was buried in a crypt with her father in the Spencer family vault at St Mary's Church in Great Barrington.

Countess Karen Spencer, who is married to Diana's brother Charles, addressed the rumours in an Instagram post.

"I saw online that she may have been buried in the family crypt with her father in a church which was used by the Spencer family," a follower commented.

Karen replied, saying: "The law in the UK is that she would have needed to be creamated [sic] in order to go in the crypt and that was not what she wanted, so that wasn't possible."

Althorp House – located an hour-and-a-half's drive out of the capital – was built in 1508 and has been in the Spencer family for 19 generations.

The estate covers 13,000 acres of countryside, not just one grand property, making it a beautiful resting place for the late Princess.
