Princess Diana's personal letter on marriage breakdown up for auction

Princess Diana was known to write lots of letters and correspondence.

Now, one of those hand-written letters, to a woman going through a marriage breakdown, is set to fetch over $7,000 at when it goes under the hammer at Julien's Auctions in LA.

The personal note shows the People's Princess's caring and kind side as she encourages the complete stranger, named Erika, through her difficult time.

Written in November 1995, months before Diana's divorce from Charles was complete, the mother-of-two offered compassion, saying: "I am thinking of you so much, hang on in there Erika."

Offering some advice, the then 34-year-old wrote:

"Dearest Erika,

"I have received your letter and of course read it with concern and a wish to support you in any way I can.

"There is a great deal of pain inside you, hence the 'block' as you call it - that is a natural response to someone who has been through the troubles you've experienced.

"Reading between the lines of your letter I feel a very special lady is struggling with a low self-esteem because of all the bruises you had to deal with, mentally and physically.

"I do know that it takes great courage to write as you did and with that honest and clarity the light will appear in your tunnel.

"I am thinking of you so much, hang on in there Erika.

"Lots of love from Diana x"

It's understood the Royal offered extra compassion, having suffered herself with esteem issues during her marriage.
