Palace reveals Princess Charlene's Christmas plans amid stay in facility outside of Monaco

Princess Charlene's Christmas plans have been revealed amid her stay in a facility near Monaco where she is receiving clinical treatment.

In a statement from the Prince's Palace of Monaco, it was said that Charlene's "convalescence" is continuing "encouragingly," and although she is "recuperating in a satisfactory and reassuring manner," it could be a few months until her health has "reached a full recovery."

The Palace confirmed that Charlene will be visited by her husband Prince Albert II, as well as their two children, seven-year-old twins Princess Gabriella, Countess of Carladès and Prince Jacques Honoré Rainier, during the Christmas holiday period.

Last month, after returning to Monaco from South Africa, where she had been stranded since May, it was announced by her husband that Charlene had entered a treatment facility "outside of Monaco" for "emotional and physical" exhaustion.

Albert told People in an exclusive interview that her return to Monaco "went pretty well in the first few hours, and then it became pretty evident that she was unwell."

While in South Africa, Charlene contracted an ear, nose and throat infection and underwent a series of surgeries to correct the issue.

An anonymous friend later told Page Six that the royal "almost died" from complications related to surgery while in South Africa, and claimed the Prince's Palace was "downplaying" the seriousness of Charlene's condition.

"It is unfair that she is being portrayed as having some kind of mental or emotional issue," the source told the publication.

They said Charlene was still suffering "severe sinus and swallowing issues stemming back from an earlier surgery" despite being cleared to return to Monaco in early November.

"She is exhausted by six months of surgeries and an inability to eat properly as a result of it," the source said, adding that Charlene was "definitely not losing her mind, or suffering from severe mental health issues."

The Palace's recent statement said that once the Princess' health "is strong enough," she is looking forward to spending time with the people of Monaco.

The statement ended with a request for privacy during Charlene's convalescence, and that the royal couple request the "family environment remain well-respected" as well.

Yesterday, Charlene released her family's Christmas card, which, unlike previous years, was a drawn portrait rather than a photograph.

"Wishing everyone a beautiful and safe festive season, all my love ❤," the 43-year-old wrote alongside the image.
